What would you do?

Recently, my nearly 3 year old grandson wanted a cupcake. 
I said - Not yet.
His response:
--- He started crying
--- He stuck out his lower lip (One of my daughter's used this technique - quite effective ...
--- He said "I was only asking."
I had to deliver the tough message  "NOT YET" - repeatedly.
His tone and tears tore at my heartstrings.

WWKD? What would KINDNESS do?
